About East Lake Tohopekaliga
East Lake Tohopekaliga sits in Osceola County, Florida, linked by canal to Lake Tohopekaliga as part of the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes. The lake borders St. Cloud on its southern and western shores and lies a few miles from Kissimmee. Homes and canal-front lots line much of the shoreline, spread across roughly 15 miles. The chain drains south toward the Kissimmee River and eventually Lake Okeechobee, a route altered repeatedly by canal and lock projects through the 20th century.
The lake is known among anglers for largemouth bass, and it has hosted Bassmaster and other tournament circuits. In the mid-2000s, water managers drew the lake down and removed accumulated muck from a large stretch of shoreline to rebuild fish habitat, one of the larger lake-restoration efforts undertaken in the region. Boat ramps and fish camps operate along the shore, and the lake connects south to Lake Toho and the rest of the chain, giving anglers and boaters a route through several connected lakes without leaving the water.
