How it's made
Real soundings
The shape of the bottom comes from survey data — NOAA and USGS where it exists, a validated depth model everywhere else. Not an artist's guess.
Stacked birch
Each depth layer is one sheet of 5 mm Baltic birch, cut on a laser and stacked so the lake drops away under your hand. Six to ten layers, depending on the lake.
Every street, every town
Roads, names and a compass are engraved into the top sheet from current map data. On small lakes you can find your own driveway.
Hangs flat
Keyholes are built into the back sheet. No hardware, no wire. Four sizes from a bookshelf 12" to a 30" statement piece.
