About Lake Arietta

Lake Arietta sits in Polk County, Florida, a few miles from downtown Winter Haven, in a region where rainwater dissolved the underlying limestone over thousands of years, leaving basins rather than valleys carved by glaciers or dammed rivers. The lake covers about 712 acres, with roughly four miles of shoreline and a modeled maximum depth near 36 feet. Central Florida's lake district holds hundreds of these sinkhole-formed basins, many tied to the citrus and phosphate economy that grew up around Winter Haven in the early 1900s.

Winter Haven is known nationally as a home of competitive water skiing, site of Cypress Gardens, which opened on Lake Eloise in 1936 and drew skiers and spectators for decades before closing as a theme park in 2009. The lakes around it, Arietta included, sit inside a landscape of citrus groves, retirement neighborhoods, and public boat ramps that put bass fishing and pontoon boating within reach of most residents. Arietta is smaller and shallower than the historic ski lakes nearby, its shoreline mostly residential rather than commercial.

Why we cut this one
Lake Arietta is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.

Depth chart

Lake Arietta depth chart, in wood

This is a Lake Arietta depth chart you can hang: 6 stacked layers of birch, each one a depth contour — 6 ft, 12 ft, 18 ft, 24 ft, 30 ft and deeper, down to the deepest hole at about 36 ft. The lake covers about 1.1 square miles. The shape of the bottom is the real one from published soundings, so anglers recognise their drop-offs and points.

A Lake Arietta map for the wall — or a gift

Most of these go to a cabin wall, a lake house entry, or a home office; a lot are gifts — the family that has been on Lake Arietta for three generations, the retirement move, the first boat. The 12-inch is the desk-and-shelf size; the 24- and 30-inch boards read across a room. Add a line under the title and star your place on the shore, and it becomes the map of your Lake Arietta.

Questions

Lake Arietta map — the details

How big is the map?

Four sizes: 12, 17, 24 and 30 inches on the long side, from $149. Every size is cut from the same depth data of Lake Arietta; the bigger boards carry more shoreline roads and place names.

Is it made from real depth data?

Yes. Lake Arietta is cut layer by layer from published bathymetric soundings — each layer of birch is a depth contour, so the shape of the bottom is the real one, not decorative.

Can I add my own place on it?

Yes. At checkout you can add a line under the title (a family name, a cabin name, a year) and star the spot on the shore that matters to you.

How long does it take?

Made to order in Waterford, Pennsylvania and shipped in 7–10 days; shipping is free in the lower 48.

Can you make a lake that isn't listed?

Any lake in the United States — we hold depth data for 104,419 of them. Search for yours; if it isn't built yet we build it when you order.
