About Lake Fairview
Lake Fairview sits inside the city of Orlando, in central Florida, part of the Central Florida sand-ridge lake system rather than a glacial basin. It formed the way most Florida lakes did, as a depression in porous limestone karst that filled with rainfall and groundwater. Fairview Shores, the unincorporated community north of downtown Orlando, takes its name from the lake and grew up along its western edge through the mid-20th century as Orlando expanded northward along US 17-92.
The lake has long been used for water skiing and bass fishing, with a public boat ramp on the south shore giving access to anglers and pleasure boaters from the surrounding Orlando neighborhoods. It sits within a few miles of Orlando's urban core, closer to downtown than the region's larger recreational lakes, which makes it a local rather than a destination lake. Homes line much of its shore, and the surrounding streets are a mix of older Orlando residential blocks and newer infill.
