About Lake Hamilton
Lake Hamilton sits in Polk County, Florida, part of the Winter Haven Chain of Lakes, a network of lakes linked by canals in the ridge lake district of central Florida. The town of Lake Hamilton lies along its northeastern shore. The region grew up around citrus groves through the early 1900s, before hard freezes in the late 20th century pushed many growers out and residential development took over the shoreline.
The lake draws largemouth bass anglers, part of a chain long known on the competitive bass-fishing circuit. Canals connect it to neighboring lakes in the chain, letting boaters move between them without leaving the water. Homes and citrus-era groves line the shore near Winter Haven and the town of Lake Hamilton, a mix of longtime Polk County families and newer lake residents drawn by boating access.
