About Lake Kerr

Lake Kerr sits inside the Ocala National Forest in Marion County, Florida, formed by the dissolution of underlying limestone rather than by a dam. That karst origin gives it a steep, funnel-shaped basin and a depth unusual for a Florida lake, with soundings reaching roughly 322 feet. The lake has no major inlet or outlet river, drawing its clarity from groundwater and rainfall percolating through limestone. Its closed basin and depth set it apart from Florida's more typical shallow, tea-colored lakes.

Salt Springs is the nearest community, and the lake lies along forest roads within the national forest rather than a lakefront subdivision grid. Largemouth bass fishing is the main draw, along with a public boat ramp used by anglers and campers staying in the surrounding forest. Development is limited by the forest boundary, so the shoreline, about 15 miles around a roughly 2,686-acre surface, stays mostly wooded instead of lined with docks and houses.

Why we cut this one
Lake Kerr is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.

Depth chart

Lake Kerr depth chart, in wood

This is a Lake Kerr depth chart you can hang: 6 stacked layers of birch, each one a depth contour — 54 ft, 107 ft, 161 ft, 215 ft, 268 ft and deeper, down to the deepest hole at about 322 ft. The lake covers about 4.3 square miles, and 120 shore roads are engraved around it. The shape of the bottom is the real one from published soundings, so anglers recognise their drop-offs and points.

A Lake Kerr map for the wall — or a gift

Most of these go to a cabin wall, a lake house entry, or a home office; a lot are gifts — the family that has been on Lake Kerr for three generations, the retirement move, the first boat. The 12-inch is the desk-and-shelf size; the 24- and 30-inch boards read across a room. Add a line under the title and star your place on the shore, and it becomes the map of your Lake Kerr.

Questions

Lake Kerr map — the details

How big is the map?

Four sizes: 12, 17, 24 and 30 inches on the long side, from $149. Every size is cut from the same depth data of Lake Kerr; the bigger boards carry more shoreline roads and place names.

Is it made from real depth data?

Yes. Lake Kerr is cut layer by layer from published bathymetric soundings — each layer of birch is a depth contour, so the shape of the bottom is the real one, not decorative.

Can I add my own place on it?

Yes. At checkout you can add a line under the title (a family name, a cabin name, a year) and star the spot on the shore that matters to you.

How long does it take?

Made to order in Waterford, Pennsylvania and shipped in 7–10 days; shipping is free in the lower 48.

Can you make a lake that isn't listed?

Any lake in the United States — we hold depth data for 104,419 of them. Search for yours; if it isn't built yet we build it when you order.
