About Lake Killarney

Lake Killarney sits inside Winter Park, formed in the sinkhole-dotted terrain typical of central Florida's karst topography. It covers roughly 198 acres and holds a modeled maximum depth near 34 feet, modest by comparison to the deep glacial lakes of the north but substantial for the region. The lake takes its name from the lakes of County Kerry, Ireland, part of a wave of Irish-inflected place names given to the string of Winter Park lakes in the 19th century as the area developed as a winter retreat for wealthy northerners.

Winter Park grew up around its chain of connecting lakes, and Killarney sits within reach of that canal system near the city's residential core, a short drive from Rollins College and downtown Orlando. Homes line much of its roughly three miles of shoreline, and the lake sees the mix typical of the Winter Park chain: bass anglers, pontoon boats, and paddlers working the shallower coves. Its water level and clarity depend on the same aquifer and sinkhole dynamics that shape lakes across the region, subject to seasonal drawdown during Florida's dry months.

Why we cut this one
Lake Killarney is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.

Depth chart

Lake Killarney depth chart, in wood

This is a Lake Killarney depth chart you can hang: 6 stacked layers of birch, each one a depth contour — 6 ft, 11 ft, 17 ft, 23 ft, 28 ft and deeper, down to the deepest hole at about 34 ft. The lake covers about 0.3 square miles, and 128 shore roads are engraved around it. The shape of the bottom is the real one from published soundings, so anglers recognise their drop-offs and points.

A Lake Killarney map for the wall — or a gift

Most of these go to a cabin wall, a lake house entry, or a home office; a lot are gifts — the family that has been on Lake Killarney for three generations, the retirement move, the first boat. The 12-inch is the desk-and-shelf size; the 24- and 30-inch boards read across a room. Add a line under the title and star your place on the shore, and it becomes the map of your Lake Killarney.

Questions

Lake Killarney map — the details

How big is the map?

Four sizes: 12, 17, 24 and 30 inches on the long side, from $149. Every size is cut from the same depth data of Lake Killarney; the bigger boards carry more shoreline roads and place names.

Is it made from real depth data?

Yes. Lake Killarney is cut layer by layer from published bathymetric soundings — each layer of birch is a depth contour, so the shape of the bottom is the real one, not decorative.

Can I add my own place on it?

Yes. At checkout you can add a line under the title (a family name, a cabin name, a year) and star the spot on the shore that matters to you.

How long does it take?

Made to order in Waterford, Pennsylvania and shipped in 7–10 days; shipping is free in the lower 48.

Can you make a lake that isn't listed?

Any lake in the United States — we hold depth data for 104,419 of them. Search for yours; if it isn't built yet we build it when you order.
