About Lake Louisa
Lake Louisa sits in Lake County, Florida, part of the chain of lakes threading through the Clermont area southwest of Orlando. Most of its shoreline lies inside Lake Louisa State Park, over 4,300 acres of sandhill and scrub that the state has managed as parkland since the 1970s. The lake's basin formed the way most in this part of Florida did, as a depression in the limestone karst that filled with groundwater and rainfall rather than being carved by glaciers or held back by a dam.
The lake draws bass anglers, kayakers, and campers who use the park's cabins and equestrian trails, with Clermont and Groveland as the nearest towns. Boat traffic stays lighter than on the larger lakes in the Clermont chain, since much of the access runs through the state park rather than private docks. Its shape is irregular and lobed rather than round, with coves that break the shoreline into distinct fingers, a common trait among Florida's sinkhole-formed lakes.
