About Lake Mabel
Lake Mabel sits in the Reedy Creek watershed of Orange County, Florida, a few miles southwest of downtown Orlando. Like most lakes in this part of the state, it formed as a solution basin in the region's porous limestone, filling with rainfall and groundwater rather than a river. The lake covers about 321 acres with roughly 4 miles of shoreline and reaches a modeled depth of around 46 feet, making it one of the deeper small lakes in a county dotted mostly with shallow sinkhole ponds.
The surrounding neighborhoods, Bay Hill and Dr. Phillips, grew up around lakes like this one, and Lake Mabel sits close enough to Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill Club & Lodge to share the same stretch of Orange County. Homes line most of its shore, with private docks rather than public boat ramps. Central Florida lakes of this size are typically worked by bass anglers and skiers rather than sailors, since the wind here rarely builds enough fetch across a lake this small to matter.
