About Lake Mann
Lake Mann sits west of downtown Orlando near the Pine Hills neighborhood, one of the many sinkhole lakes that dot the flat limestone terrain of central Florida. These lakes form when the porous rock underneath dissolves and the ground above settles, leaving a basin that fills with rainwater and groundwater rather than a river-fed valley. At roughly 232 acres, Lake Mann is mid-sized among Orlando's urban lakes, ringed by single-family homes and a public park with boat access on its shoreline.
Its listed maximum depth of about 29 feet is notable for the region, since many Florida sinkhole lakes stay shallow and weedy across most of their area. The added depth supports a fishery of largemouth bass, bluegill, and catfish that draws local anglers working the shoreline and small boats. With about two miles of shoreline packed into a compact, rounded footprint, the lake reads more like a neighborhood pond on a map than the deep, structured water it actually holds, which is part of why residents who fish it treat it differently than its size suggests.
