About Lake Marion
Lake Marion sits near Winter Haven in Polk County, part of the chain of lakes that spread across central Florida's ridge country. The lake covers roughly 2,760 acres, with about 12 miles of shoreline bordered by residential docks, citrus groves, and stretches of undeveloped scrub. Central Florida's lake district formed within sand hills left by ancient shorelines, and many of its lakes, Marion included, sit in shallow basins carved into that porous terrain long before the surrounding towns existed.
The Winter Haven chain has drawn bass anglers for decades, and Marion is one of the deeper links in that network, connected to neighboring lakes by a system of canals built in the 20th century for navigation and water management. Local fishing guides run charters for largemouth bass, and the lake sees a mix of retirees, weekend boaters, and tournament anglers from around the state. Homes line much of its shore, but the lake retains open water and grass flats typical of the chain's shallower, food-rich habitat.
