About Lake Mary Jane
Lake Mary Jane sits in unincorporated Orange County, Florida, roughly 23 miles southeast of downtown Orlando. Moss Park, a county park of more than 1,500 acres, occupies the peninsula between Lake Mary Jane and its neighbor, Lake Hart, and a short canal connects the two so boats can pass between them. The lake has no dam or engineered origin; it sits in the flat, low country typical of central Florida's lake district, ringed by cypress and marsh rather than bluffs or hills.
Moss Park maintains a public boat ramp and fishing piers along the western shore of Lake Mary Jane, and the lake is fished mainly for largemouth bass, bluegill, and speckled perch. Traffic on the water is a mix of local bass anglers, campers from the Moss Park campground, and paddlers working the canal over to Lake Hart. The surrounding area was rural pastureland for decades; the Lake Nona development has since spread south to within a few miles of the shoreline, though the immediate lakefront remains parkland and low-density home sites rather than resort development.
