About Lake Minnehaha
Lake Minnehaha sits in Lake County, Florida, one of several interconnected lakes making up the Harris Chain of Lakes near Leesburg. The chain lies in the sandy ridge country of central Florida, where shallow basins fill from rainfall and a high water table rather than a single feeder river. Leesburg grew up on the edge of the chain in the late 1800s as a citrus-shipping town, moving fruit out by steamboat before rail lines reached the area and took over that trade.
Canals link Minnehaha to the neighboring lakes in the chain, letting boats move between them without returning to a public ramp each time. The Harris Chain built a reputation among largemouth bass anglers, and tournament boats still run its waters alongside local fishing guides who work the chain for a living. Leesburg and the smaller communities around Minnehaha draw a mix of retirees, weekend anglers, and longtime Lake County families who grew up boating this stretch of the chain.
