About Lake Mirror
Lake Mirror sits on the central Florida ridge, a belt of ancient sand dunes pocked with sinkhole lakes formed by dissolving limestone rather than glacial retreat. Winter Haven grew up among dozens of these lakes in the early twentieth century, its economy built first on citrus groves and packing houses and later on tourism drawn to the water itself. Many of the area's lakes were eventually tied together by dredged canals, turning what had been isolated sinkholes into a connected system that boaters could travel for miles without a trailer.
Lake Mirror covers roughly 566 acres with about four miles of shoreline, modest enough to stay mostly residential rather than commercial. Winter Haven's lakes carry a particular reputation in that world: Cypress Gardens, now Legoland Florida, staged competitive water-ski shows nearby for decades and helped make the region a training ground for skiers. Houses back directly onto the water on lots that were platted for that purpose, and largemouth bass fishing draws local anglers who know these lakes by name rather than by number.
