About Lake Ola

Lake Ola sits in Lake County, Florida, a few miles from Leesburg, in a stretch of the state built on limestone karst. Central Florida's lakes in this belt are mostly sinkhole lakes, formed where the porous bedrock below dissolved and the surface settled into a basin that filled with groundwater and rain. At roughly 410 acres with about three miles of shoreline, Lake Ola is small enough to see across but deep enough, at close to 48 feet at its deepest point, to stand out among its neighbors.

The surrounding country was citrus land before hard freezes in the late 20th century pushed growers south, and Lake County still carries that history in its road names and old grove lines. Leesburg grew up as a rail and lake town serving that agricultural trade, and the smaller lakes around it, Ola included, became residential and fishing water once the groves thinned out. Central Florida's lake belt, this one included, is known regionally for largemouth bass, and the depth of Ola relative to its size is part of what keeps anglers coming back to it specifically.

Why we cut this one
Lake Ola is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.

Depth chart

Lake Ola depth chart, in wood

This is a Lake Ola depth chart you can hang: 6 stacked layers of birch, each one a depth contour — 8 ft, 16 ft, 24 ft, 32 ft, 40 ft and deeper, down to the deepest hole at about 48 ft. The lake covers about 0.7 square miles. The shape of the bottom is the real one from published soundings, so anglers recognise their drop-offs and points.

A Lake Ola map for the wall — or a gift

Most of these go to a cabin wall, a lake house entry, or a home office; a lot are gifts — the family that has been on Lake Ola for three generations, the retirement move, the first boat. The 12-inch is the desk-and-shelf size; the 24- and 30-inch boards read across a room. Add a line under the title and star your place on the shore, and it becomes the map of your Lake Ola.

Questions

Lake Ola map — the details

How big is the map?

Four sizes: 12, 17, 24 and 30 inches on the long side, from $149. Every size is cut from the same depth data of Lake Ola; the bigger boards carry more shoreline roads and place names.

Is it made from real depth data?

Yes. Lake Ola is cut layer by layer from published bathymetric soundings — each layer of birch is a depth contour, so the shape of the bottom is the real one, not decorative.

Can I add my own place on it?

Yes. At checkout you can add a line under the title (a family name, a cabin name, a year) and star the spot on the shore that matters to you.

How long does it take?

Made to order in Waterford, Pennsylvania and shipped in 7–10 days; shipping is free in the lower 48.

Can you make a lake that isn't listed?

Any lake in the United States — we hold depth data for 104,419 of them. Search for yours; if it isn't built yet we build it when you order.
