About Little Lake Hamilton
Little Lake Hamilton sits within the Winter Haven Chain of Lakes, a group of interconnected lakes in Polk County, Florida, joined by natural and dredged canals. The chain occupies sandy ridge terrain left behind by higher sea levels in past geologic periods, and many of its lakes, including this one, formed as sinkholes in the region's limestone base. The lake covers about 311 acres with roughly four miles of shoreline, its outlet connecting south through the chain toward the city of Winter Haven.
Winter Haven grew up around this chain of lakes, and Cypress Gardens, opened nearby in 1936, built its reputation on water-ski shows staged across the connected waters, drawing skiers and spectators for decades. Bass anglers still work the chain today, and the shoreline mixes citrus groves with residential docks typical of central Florida lake country. Little Lake Hamilton sits on the chain's eastern edge near the town of Lake Hamilton, smaller and quieter than its larger namesake lake next door.
