About Starke Lake
Starke Lake sits in the middle of Ocoee, a small city in Orange County west of Orlando. Like most lakes in this part of Florida, it formed in a limestone sinkhole basin rather than behind a dam or in a glacial trough. The lake covers about 173 acres with roughly two miles of shoreline, entirely surrounded by the streets and neighborhoods of the town that grew up around it.
A public boat ramp gives residents direct access to the lake for fishing and small boats. Ocoee's downtown business district sits within walking distance of the shore, so the lake functions as much as a civic landmark as a body of water. Homes line most of the remaining bank, mixing older lots with newer construction as the Orlando suburbs have expanded west toward the lake.
