About Lake Pleasant
Lake Pleasant sits in the Sonoran Desert about 35 miles northwest of Phoenix, formed on the Agua Fria River by the original Waddell Dam in 1927 and enlarged dramatically when the New Waddell Dam was finished in 1994 as a storage basin for the Central Arizona Project. The reservoir now covers roughly 10,000 acres and reaches depths of about 260 feet near the dam, with the old dam submerged beneath it. Maricopa County's Lake Pleasant Regional Park rings the shore, and the lake is one of the closest boating and fishing escapes for the Phoenix metro area.
