About Bass Lake
Bass Lake sits in the Sierra National Forest a few miles south of Yosemite's south entrance, impounded on Willow Creek by Crane Valley Dam in the early 1900s to store water for a Southern California Edison powerhouse downstream. The lake is narrow and about three miles long, ringed by pine forest at roughly 3,400 feet elevation, with the resort village of Bass Lake on the north shore. Its position just outside Yosemite makes it a popular add-on stop for park visitors, and waterskiing, fishing and the marina at the Pines Village keep it busy all summer.

This is a Bass Lake depth chart you can hang: 6 stacked layers of birch, each one a depth contour — 14 ft, 29 ft, 43 ft, 57 ft, 71 ft and deeper, down to the deepest hole at about 86 ft. The lake covers about 1.5 square miles, and 72 shore roads are engraved around it. The shape of the bottom is the real one from published soundings, so anglers recognise their drop-offs and points.

Yes. Bass Lake is cut layer by layer from published bathymetric soundings — each layer of birch is a depth contour, so the shape of the bottom is the real one, not decorative.
