About Lake Miramar
Lake Miramar is a reservoir built by damming Miramar Creek, part of the City of San Diego's municipal water storage system serving the Miramar and Scripps Ranch areas. It sits inside the boundary of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, though the lake itself is managed by the city's public utilities department and opened to public recreation on a permit basis rather than left as a closed military facility.
The lake draws anglers fishing for stocked trout and largemouth bass, along with rowers and paddlers using the calm, no-wake water for training and recreation. San Diego State University's crew team has used Miramar's protected water for practice, since the reservoir sees no motorboats or personal watercraft. The surrounding Scripps Ranch and Mira Mesa neighborhoods provide most of the day visitors, walking the perimeter trail that circles the shoreline.

Yes. Lake Miramar is cut layer by layer from published bathymetric soundings — each layer of birch is a depth contour, so the shape of the bottom is the real one, not decorative.
