About Lake Nacimiento
Lake Nacimiento was formed in 1957 when Nacimiento Dam closed across the Nacimiento River in the hills of northern San Luis Obispo County, built by Monterey County as a water and flood-control project. The lake winds through more than 165 miles of oak-studded shoreline, warmer and calmer than the ocean just over the coastal range, which has made it a longtime houseboating and waterskiing destination for the Central Coast and the Central Valley. Nacimiento Resort and a scattering of vineyards nearby are the closest developments to its water.

Is it made from real depth data?
Yes. Lake Nacimiento is cut layer by layer from published bathymetric soundings — each layer of birch is a depth contour, so the shape of the bottom is the real one, not decorative.
Can I add my own place on it?
Yes. At checkout you can add a line under the title (a family name, a cabin name, a year) and star the spot on the shore that matters to you.
