About Shasta Lake
Shasta Lake is California's largest reservoir, formed when Shasta Dam was completed on the Sacramento River in 1945 as the keystone of the Central Valley Project. Three rivers — the Sacramento, McCloud and Pit — along with Squaw Creek feed the lake's four forked arms, and Mount Shasta's snowy cone rises to the north. The lake covers roughly 30,000 acres at full pool with more than 365 miles of shoreline, and houseboating, bass fishing and the Shasta Caverns tour draw visitors from Redding, just south, through the hot Sacramento Valley summers.

Yes. Shasta Lake is cut layer by layer from published bathymetric soundings — each layer of birch is a depth contour, so the shape of the bottom is the real one, not decorative.
