The lake

About Lake Shelbyville

Lake Shelbyville is a reservoir on the Kaskaskia River in Shelby and Moultrie counties, built by the Army Corps of Engineers with construction starting in 1963 and the lake reaching full pool in 1970. It covers about 11,100 acres with 250 miles of shoreline, extending nearly 17 miles from the dam at Shelbyville up toward Sullivan and Bethany, and reaches a maximum depth of 67 feet. Wolf Creek and Eagle Creek state parks border much of the lake, and its largely undeveloped shoreline makes it one of the better bass-fishing lakes in Illinois.
