About Lake Springfield

Lake Springfield is a reservoir on the southeast edge of Springfield, Illinois, formed by damming Sugar and Lick creeks behind Spaulding Dam, which was completed in 1935 largely with federal relief funds after a 1930 bond issue got the project started. The lake covers roughly 4,000 acres and is still owned by the city's utility, City Water, Light & Power, serving as both the region's drinking water source and cooling water for its power plant. More than 50 miles of shoreline and eight public parks make it Springfield's primary lake for boating, fishing and swimming.

On the board
  • 4 shore towns named, with a star on each
  • 675 roads engraved around the shore, 9 of them labeled
  • 6 depth layers, each step engraved with its depth in feet
  • Compass rose, title block with coordinates, max depth and area; keyhole hanger on the back
Why we cut this one
Lake Springfield is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.
