About Taylorsville Lake
Taylorsville Lake formed in 1983, when the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers completed a dam on the Salt River near the town of Taylorsville in Spencer County, Kentucky. The project was built for flood control and water supply for the growing Louisville area, backing water up the Salt River and its Brashears Creek tributary. The resulting reservoir covers roughly 2,619 acres with about 46 miles of shoreline, replacing bottomland farms and rural crossroads that had sat along the river for generations.
The lake sits inside Taylorsville Lake State Park, which manages a marina, campgrounds, and a wildlife management area along its upper arms. It draws bass anglers in particular, with a reputation among Kentucky lake fishermen for largemouth bass tournaments held out of the state park marina each season. The surrounding shoreline stays mostly undeveloped compared to lakes closer to Louisville, and the towns of Taylorsville and Mount Eden serve as the main access points for boaters and weekend campers.
