About Pleasant Lake

Pleasant Lake sits in Anoka County, part of the outwash country left behind as the last glaciers retreated across central Minnesota roughly 10,000 years ago, a landscape of sandy soil and kettle lakes north of the Twin Cities. The lake spans about 561 acres with roughly six miles of shoreline, ringed mostly by residential lots rather than public parkland, in a corridor of Anoka County that shifted from farmland to suburb through the second half of the twentieth century as Minneapolis grew outward along Highway 10 and Highway 65.

Anglers fish it for walleye, bass, and panfish, and it draws boaters and water-skiers from the surrounding suburbs on summer weekends. At a modeled maximum depth near 66 feet, it holds enough cold water to support a two-story fishery, warmwater species near the surface and cooler-water fish lower down, which is part of why the Minnesota DNR has monitored it over the years. The lake's basin is compact and rounded rather than sprawling, typical of the pothole lakes scattered across this part of the state.

Why we cut this one
Pleasant Lake is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.

Depth chart

Pleasant Lake depth chart, in wood

This is a Pleasant Lake depth chart you can hang: 6 stacked layers of birch, each one a depth contour — 11 ft, 22 ft, 33 ft, 44 ft, 55 ft and deeper, down to the deepest hole at about 66 ft. The lake covers about 0.9 square miles. The shape of the bottom is the real one from published soundings, so anglers recognise their drop-offs and points.

A Pleasant Lake map for the wall — or a gift

Most of these go to a cabin wall, a lake house entry, or a home office; a lot are gifts — the family that has been on Pleasant Lake for three generations, the retirement move, the first boat. The 12-inch is the desk-and-shelf size; the 24- and 30-inch boards read across a room. Add a line under the title and star your place on the shore, and it becomes the map of your Pleasant Lake.

Questions

Pleasant Lake map — the details

How big is the map?

Four sizes: 12, 17, 24 and 30 inches on the long side, from $149. Every size is cut from the same depth data of Pleasant Lake; the bigger boards carry more shoreline roads and place names.

Is it made from real depth data?

Yes. Pleasant Lake is cut layer by layer from published bathymetric soundings — each layer of birch is a depth contour, so the shape of the bottom is the real one, not decorative.

Can I add my own place on it?

Yes. At checkout you can add a line under the title (a family name, a cabin name, a year) and star the spot on the shore that matters to you.

How long does it take?

Made to order in Waterford, Pennsylvania and shipped in 7–10 days; shipping is free in the lower 48.

Can you make a lake that isn't listed?

Any lake in the United States — we hold depth data for 104,419 of them. Search for yours; if it isn't built yet we build it when you order.
