About Rush Lake
Rush Lake sits north of Minneapolis, Minnesota, one of thousands of lakes left across the state by the retreat of glaciers at the end of the last ice age. The lake covers roughly 2,871 acres, making it one of the larger bodies of water in its part of the state. Its basin is shallow by Minnesota standards, reaching a maximum depth of only about 46 feet, so sunlight reaches the bottom across much of its surface.
The lake's shoreline runs about 27 miles, far longer than its acreage alone would suggest, a sign of the coves, points, and bays that break up its perimeter rather than a simple round basin. That irregular shape has made it popular with anglers and cabin owners who value quiet water tucked into narrow inlets. Like many lakes in the region, it draws a mix of year-round residents and seasonal visitors from the Twin Cities, who fish, boat, and gather on its docks through the open-water months.
