About Cayuga Lake
Cayuga Lake is the longest of the Finger Lakes at about 38 miles and the second-deepest at 435 feet, its bottom far below sea level. Ithaca and Cornell University sit at the south end above the gorges; the north end joins the Erie Canal system through the Cayuga–Seneca Canal.
Taughannock Falls, the Cayuga Wine Trail and the villages of Aurora, Union Springs and Seneca Falls — where the 1848 women's rights convention met — line its shores. The lake's 'Cornell chimes' and the Cayuga salt beds underneath it are both real.
