About Orange Lake
Orange Lake sits in Orange County, New York, a short drive from Poughkeepsie across the Hudson Valley. It formed as a natural lake rather than behind a dam, with a shoreline that runs close to three miles around roughly 390 acres of water. Houses and camps line most of the bank, mixed with public launches used by local boaters heading out for the day.
Most of the basin stays shallow, with the deepest water modeled at around 49 feet, concentrated in a smaller stretch rather than spread evenly across the lake. That mix of shallow flats and one deeper pocket shapes where boats anchor and where anglers work the water. Weekend traffic on the lake runs to fishing and pontoon boats more than to anything larger, in keeping with a lake this size.
