About Wolf Lake
Wolf Lake sits in the Hudson Valley in Dutchess County, a short drive from Poughkeepsie. Small lakes across this part of New York State were left behind as glaciers retreated from the region thousands of years ago, filling low basins in the hills between the Hudson and the Taconic ridgeline to the east. At roughly 264 acres, Wolf Lake is modest in size compared to the larger reservoirs and glacial lakes nearby, but it holds a compact, contained shoreline of about three miles.
The lake is ringed mostly by private homes and camps rather than public parkland, with the kind of low-key traffic typical of a Dutchess County lake within commuting range of Poughkeepsie: weekend anglers, kayakers, and year-round residents who bought in for the quiet.
