About Bantam Lake

Bantam Lake is the largest natural lake entirely within Connecticut, about 947 acres split between the towns of Morris and Litchfield in the state's northwest hills. It's shallow — 25 feet at its deepest — and the Bantam River flushes the whole lake clean roughly every three and a half months. The White Memorial Foundation protects much of the north shore as a wildlife sanctuary, while two public beaches and a scattering of camps and cottages line the rest. The Bantam Lake Ski Club, one of the oldest continuously operating water-ski clubs in the country, and a rowing club out of Litchfield both still run programs here.

On the board
  • 4 shore towns named, with a star on each
  • 50 roads engraved around the shore, 5 of them labeled
  • 6 depth layers, each step engraved with its depth in feet
  • Compass rose, title block with coordinates, max depth and area; keyhole hanger on the back
Why we cut this one
Bantam Lake is one of the lakes people ask us for by name — the kind of shoreline where the house has a name and the dock has a history. This board is cut from the same depth grid the configurator uses for all 104,419 lakes, so the shape is the real one.
