About Countryside Lake
Countryside Lake sits in Lake County, Illinois, a few miles inland from the shore of Lake Michigan and north of Waukegan. Like most natural lakes in this part of northeastern Illinois, the terrain around it was shaped by the retreat of glacial ice sheets thousands of years ago, which left behind the shallow basins and kettle depressions that later filled with water. The lake covers roughly 141 acres with about three miles of shoreline, modest in size compared to the larger glacial lakes farther north near the Wisconsin border.
The lake is bordered by residential lots, part of a small unincorporated community built up around its shoreline rather than a public park or forest preserve. Homes face the water on private lots, and access is mostly limited to residents and their guests rather than the general public. With a maximum depth estimated around 28 feet, the lake is shallow enough to warm through in summer, supporting the kind of small-boat and shoreline fishing typical of the residential lakes scattered across Lake County.
