About Lake Catherine
Lake Catherine sits in the northeastern corner of Lake County, Illinois, part of the Chain O'Lakes system carved by glaciers at the end of the last ice age. It connects by channel to Channel Lake and the rest of the chain, which drains south into the Fox River. The lake covers about 465 acres with roughly six miles of shoreline and a modeled maximum depth near 48 feet, shallow enough that weed growth and water clarity shift noticeably through the season.
The surrounding shoreline is built up with year-round homes and older summer cottages, many with private docks and boat lifts. Antioch, Illinois, sits just south of the lake and serves as the main gateway to this stretch of the Chain O'Lakes, with the Wisconsin state line only a few miles north. Fishing pressure runs toward largemouth bass, walleye, and panfish, and the lake stays busy through summer with boat traffic moving between it and its neighboring lakes in the chain.
