About Crooked Lake
Crooked Lake sits in Steuben County in the far northeast corner of Indiana, part of a cluster of kettle and moraine lakes left behind when the last glaciers retreated from the region. The lake covers roughly 744 acres and runs about 9 miles of irregular, island-studded shoreline, a shape that gives the lake its name. A channel connects it to neighboring Lake James, letting boat traffic move between the two without a trailer.
The lake sits a few miles from Angola, the Steuben County seat, and borders Pokagon State Park, which draws visitors for its toboggan run and beach in addition to lake access. Shoreline development is mostly older cottages and single-family homes rather than large resorts, and the lake supports bass, panfish, and walleye fishing alongside water skiing and pontoon traffic typical of the northern Indiana lake district.
