The lake
About Lake Wawasee
Lake Wawasee in Kosciusko County is the largest natural lake in Indiana at about 3,000 acres, with 21 miles of shoreline and a maximum depth of 77 feet. It was named for the Potawatomi chief Waubee; Chicago and Fort Wayne families have summered on it since the railroad arrived in the 1870s.
Syracuse at the north end, the South Shore Golf Club and the Wawasee Yacht Club are the landmarks, and the E-scow and Lightning fleets have raced it for a century.
