About Dudley Pond
Dudley Pond sits west of Boston in the towns of Wellesley and Natick, a kettle pond left behind as glaciers retreated from eastern Massachusetts thousands of years ago. Its irregular, elongated shape and scattered coves are typical of that origin, with the water surface covering roughly 294 acres inside a shoreline that runs close to five miles.
The pond has long served as a neighborhood swimming and boating spot for the surrounding suburbs, with residents launching canoes, kayaks, and small sailboats from its banks rather than larger powercraft. Houses and yards line much of the shore, and the pond's modest depth, cresting at roughly 38 feet, keeps it warm enough for summer swimming while supporting a resident fish population that draws local anglers.
