The lake
About Lake Buel
Lake Buel lies between Monterey and New Marlborough in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, a small lake of about 196 acres and 42 feet at its deepest. It was renamed in 1876 for Samuel Buell, who at sixteen rescued drowning victims from a rowboat accident on the lake back in 1812. The lake became a summer destination in the 1870s, and more than a hundred summer homes now sit around a dozen small neighborhoods on its shore.
