The lake
About Lake Cochituate
Lake Cochituate is really three linked ponds — North, Middle and South — spanning Natick, Wayland and Framingham west of Boston, about 625 acres in all. Built as Boston's water supply between 1848 and 1863, it sent water fourteen miles by aqueduct into the city until larger reservoirs took over in 1951. Cochituate State Park now holds the beaches and boat ramps, and the Cochituate Rail Trail follows the old railway that once served the works.
