About Foss Reservoir
Foss Reservoir sits in Worcester County, Massachusetts, a short drive from the city of Worcester. Like most reservoirs in this part of the state, it was formed by damming a river valley, and its edges still trace the folds of the land that was flooded rather than a single open basin. That history shows up in the shoreline, which runs to roughly 20 miles despite the reservoir covering only about 1,090 acres.
The long, irregular shoreline creates dozens of coves and points rather than one continuous bank, which spreads out the docks, camps, and access points around the water instead of clustering them in one spot. At a modeled maximum depth of about 49 feet, it is deep enough to hold cool water through the summer without qualifying as one of the region's deep basins.
