About Wequaquet Lake
Wequaquet Lake sits in Barnstable, Massachusetts, in the village of Centerville on Cape Cod. It is a kettle lake, formed near the end of the last glaciation when a block of ice buried in glacial outwash melted and left a depression that filled with groundwater. At roughly 509 acres, it is the largest freshwater lake on Cape Cod, with about six miles of shoreline.
The lake has no major inflowing stream; it is fed mostly by groundwater and drains south through the Centerville River to Nantucket Sound. Its shoreline mixes year-round houses with summer camps, and it has long drawn sailors, water-skiers, and anglers after bass and pickerel. Neighboring Bearse's Pond and Middle Pond connect to it, forming one of the larger interconnected pond systems on the Cape.
