About Whitney Pond
Whitney Pond lies in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, a few miles from Lowell, a former textile-mill city on the Merrimack River and the state's fourth-largest by population. The pond covers about 190 acres and has roughly four miles of shoreline, small enough to see across in most weather. Middlesex County is the most populous county in Massachusetts, and the pond sits within commuting range of both Lowell and the western edge of metropolitan Boston.
At about 42 feet at its deepest point, based on modeled bathymetry rather than a full lake survey, Whitney Pond is deeper than many ponds of comparable size in eastern Massachusetts, where kettle ponds and mill ponds rarely exceed a few dozen feet.
