About Vineyard Lake
Vineyard Lake sits in Lenawee and Jackson counties in southeast Michigan, a body of water shaped by the retreat of glaciers thousands of years ago rather than by a dam. It covers roughly 489 acres with about six miles of shoreline, small enough to circle by car in under half an hour but large enough to support year-round residents alongside seasonal cottage owners. It lies within reach of Ann Arbor, making it a common second-home draw for people who work in the city but want water on the weekends.
Homes ring nearly the entire shoreline, a mix of older cottages from the mid-1900s and newer construction built as lakefront lots turned over. The lake supports panfish, bass, and walleye, drawing anglers from nearby Brooklyn and Cement City as much as from farther afield. Its modeled depth reaches about 50 feet, giving it more relief than many of the shallow kettle lakes scattered through the same stretch of southern Michigan. Boat traffic stays moderate, split between fishing boats in early morning and pontoons and skiers once the day warms.
