About Lake Charlevoix
Lake Charlevoix is a 17,000-acre lake in the northwest Lower Peninsula that opens to Lake Michigan through the Pine River channel at Charlevoix, where the drawbridge on US-31 stops traffic for yachts on summer weekends. The main basin is about 13 miles long and 122 feet deep; the South Arm runs another 10 miles down to East Jordan.
Boyne City sits at the head of the lake, Charlevoix at the mouth, and Ironton's tiny cable ferry still crosses the narrows between them. Big-water boats, lake-trout fishing and the Round Lake harbor at Charlevoix make it the most nautical of Michigan's inland lakes.

Yes. Lake Charlevoix is cut layer by layer from published bathymetric soundings — each layer of birch is a depth contour, so the shape of the bottom is the real one, not decorative.
