About Chub Lake
Chub Lake sits inside the city of Lakeville, Dakota County, Minnesota, about 20 miles south of Minneapolis-St. Paul. Like most lakes in this part of the state, its basin was carved by the retreat of glacial ice roughly 10,000 to 12,000 years ago, leaving behind the kettle and moraine depressions that dot southern Dakota County. The lake covers about 193 acres, small enough to see across but large enough to support year-round homes along its shoreline.
The lake is ringed mostly by private residential lots, with docks and boats typical of a suburban Twin Cities lake rather than a resort destination. Anglers fish it for panfish and bass. What sets it apart from many nearby lakes of similar size is its depth: a maximum of about 50 feet against roughly three miles of shoreline means it holds cooler water later into summer than the shallow, weedy lakes common to this glaciated landscape.
