About South Lindstrom Lake
South Lindstrom Lake sits in Chisago County, Minnesota, part of the Chisago Chain of Lakes north of the Twin Cities. It connects by a narrow channel to Lindstrom Lake, the two bodies functioning as one system for boat traffic even though they're named and mapped separately. The chain formed in the outwash left behind as the last glaciers retreated from this part of Minnesota, leaving a string of connected basins rather than one large lake.
The town of Lindstrom grew up on the shore of the lake that shares its name, settled by Swedish immigrants in the 1850s and still known locally as Little Sweden. South Lindstrom's shoreline is a mix of year-round homes and seasonal cabins, with fishing, pontoon traffic, and small marinas typical of the chain. Its elongated shape and connection to neighboring lakes make it more of a through-lake than a destination unto itself, a piece of a larger network rather than an isolated body of water.
