About Whitefish Lake
Whitefish Lake sits just north of the town of Whitefish, Montana, at the base of Whitefish Mountain Resort, about 7 miles long and 222 feet deep, half an hour from Glacier National Park. City Beach at the south end is the town's summer living room.
The Great Northern Railway put Whitefish on the map in 1904 as a division point, and Amtrak's Empire Builder still stops at the depot. The lake's north end is state forest; the rest is some of the most expensive shoreline in Montana.
