The lake
About Squam Lake
Squam Lake is the second-largest lake in New Hampshire, about 6,800 acres with 65 miles of shoreline and a maximum depth of 99 feet, just north of Winnipesaukee and far less developed. Its islands and coves and the loons that nest on them were the setting for the 1981 film 'On Golden Pond'.
Holderness, Sandwich and Center Harbor share the shore; the Squam Lakes Association and the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center keep it the way it is. Rattlesnake Mountain's short hike gives the classic view down the length of the lake.
