The lake
About Lake Sunapee
Lake Sunapee in western New Hampshire is about 8 miles long and 105 feet deep, with water clear enough to see bottom in twenty feet and three small lighthouses — Loon Island, Herrick Cove and Burkehaven — the only lighthouses on an inland New Hampshire lake. Mount Sunapee's ski area rises at the south end.
Sunapee Harbor, New London and Newbury are the shore towns; the grand hotels of the steamboat era are gone but the summer families are not. The name is Algonquian for 'wild goose water'.
