About Canadice Lake
Canadice Lake sits in the Bristol Hills south of Rochester, New York, one of the eleven Finger Lakes and, at roughly 628 acres, the smallest of them. It has no year-round development on its shore; the City of Rochester has owned the surrounding land since the early 1900s as part of its watershed system, and public access is limited to a boat launch and a network of hiking and fishing trails. There are no permanent camps or cottages ringing the water, which sets it apart from most of its sister lakes.
Because Rochester manages the shoreline as protected watershed, motors are restricted and the lake sees canoes, kayaks, and trout fishermen rather than pontoon boats and jet skis. Neighboring Hemlock Lake shares the same ownership and rules, and together the two form a quiet corridor between Canandaigua and Honeoye. Local anglers come for stocked lake trout and rainbow trout, while hikers use the Bristol Hills Branch of the Finger Lakes Trail, which runs along the western shore above the water.
