About Cossayuna Lake
Cossayuna Lake lies in Washington County, New York, near the hamlet of Cossayuna, roughly 20 miles northeast of Saratoga Springs. The lake covers about 640 acres, yet its shoreline runs close to 8 miles, an irregular outline of coves and points rather than a simple oval. Modeled depths reach about 48 feet at the deepest point, modest compared with the deeper glacial lakes farther north in the Adirondacks. The surrounding land is a mix of farm fields and low wooded hills typical of the region between the Hudson River and the Vermont border.
Most of the shoreline is developed with seasonal camps and year-round homes rather than resorts, marinas, or public beaches. Fishing is the lake's main draw, particularly for largemouth bass and panfish, and its narrow, irregular shape keeps much of the water within casting distance of shore. Cossayuna functions as a local lake rather than a tourist destination, used mainly by Washington County residents and camp owners rather than by the seasonal crowds that head further north to the larger Adirondack lakes or west to Saratoga Springs.
